John Monash: Engineering enterprise prior to WW1.

Rochester Water Tower. 1914.

Tall cylindrical tank supported by a tall shaft. The tank is a bright blue fibreglass replacement. The shaft is original and has the usual broad bands of rough cast surfacing interspersed with bands of windows.

Photo: c.2000.

The photograph suggests that only the walls of the old tank were removed, leaving the floor projecting beyond the sides of the shaft. The new tank is of fibreglass. Monash's tower overshadows the older brick tower with its cast iron tank.
